LESLEY PAULETTE (SHE/HER)

  • Knowledge Keepers advisory committee member

Lesley is a member of the Treaty 8 Smith’s Landing FN and is a midwife of Mohawk descent from Six Nations of the Grand River. She was among the first group of midwives to become registered in Alberta, and became one of two registered in the NT with the passage of territorial legislation.

Lesley has offered midwifery care in Fort Smith, NT for 30 years. The rebirth of community based midwifery in Fort Smith served as the catalyst for midwifery legislation in the NT and the subsequent integration of midwifery into the NT health system. Lesley was instrumental in establishing the midwifery-led maternity care program in Fort Smith, and the development of a second program in Hay River. She has since worked for the Department of Health and Social Services as the Senior Midwifery Consultant.
